Surrealist Existencialsm
Martin Del Carpio is a truly magnificent filmmaker, his creativity leaves me in awe. He first saw my work in Mother of All Choices last November 2024, thanks to an introduction from Romy Nordlinger.
Later, I had the privilege of working with him on I Exist, a wonderfully existential horror short filmed on an abandoned hospital floor. I played Nurse Linda, and Martin trusted me completely, giving me full freedom to shape this uncanny character. Being on set felt like stepping into an immersive world, somewhere between reality and a Wes Anderson-like dreamscape.
After that, Martin called me for his newest short film, Why Are You Still Dreaming, Human?, a surreal, existential conversation about what it means to be an artist today. This was the second time I was offered a role without auditioning, and again I had the freedom to express myself and contribute ideas on set. I’m deeply grateful for both experiences and I look forward to creating more with Martin, exploring new stories, new worlds, and more existential truths.
“Working on I Exist gave me the chance to look inward and confront realities we don’t usually want to face. Why Are You Still Dreaming, Human? pushed me even further, helping me, as David Lynch would say, to ‘catch the big fish.’ Working with Tessie was a game-changer, her enthusiasm and impeccable acting technique brought these stories to life and gave the films the depth and energy they truly deserved.” — Martin Del Carpio
